FRIENDS
Ben L – My friend since grade 11, we met through a mutual friend. We discovered that our morning classes were opposite, so we would basically trade classrooms. We started studying for tests at Blenz, and the rest is a crazy, crazy history.
Stasia - She started out as a friend of a friend, who I got to know better, and now neither of us talk to the person who introduced us. She gives the best hugs in the world, and she is my secret lesbian lover. Shh.
Greg - Stasia’s younger brother. Is friends with my brother. Is just as random as his sister.
Kayla - Friend of Stasia and Ben, one of the nicest people on the PLANET. She’s awesome. We have a shared (irrational) fear of people hiding in pit toilets at campgrounds.
Monika – Kayla’s roommate at UVIC.
Timmy - Kayla’s ex. Also known as Mishka (his Russian alter-ego).
Robin - Stasia and Ben’s friend. Vegetarian. Is totally cool and everyone is jealous of her amazing good looks and level-headedness.
Gordie - Robin’s boyfriend. I knew of him ages and ages ago through my friend in French immersion. Thought he was a stuck up “cool” kid til I got to know him. He’s insane, but in a good way.
Madelaine - Stasia and Robin’s friend. AKA Ding, Dingwall, Dinger. Artistic, tall, swimmer. Seems a little abrasive but she’s actually pretty wicked.
Rachel - Madelaine’s roommate. Has a brother named Ben.
Danny - Random kid. Well, not really. Was in Fine Arts with Robin/Stasia/Ben/Madelaine/Kayla. Had math 11 with him. My brother is friends with his sister. He randomy gets kicked out of his house because his mom is insane. He’s very odd. Known for asking, “know what’s hot?” and telling us, “bellybutton lint.”
Corey – Another fine arts kid. I think. Lives in Edmonton. Danny lived with him a little while ago but he recently came back.
Andrea - Fellow band geek. Played flute too. I love her to death. She does karate and has the belt below black. Is a total sweetheart.
Brittany – is the total opposite of most people who share her name. Goth-ish, independent, hilarious and loveable.
Amber - One of the craziest people I know, and is partially responsible for my sense of humour. Band geek. Throws wicked awesome parties and is one of my favourite people.
Laurel – Amber’s mom. Pretty cool for a mom.
Mark - Amber’s older (but not oldest) brother. One of my good friends, shares Amber’s twisted sense of humour. Is usually the life of a party. [on the left]
Jason - Amber’s oldest brother. Is a ninja. [on the right]
Anne - “Youth Services Coordinator” for Parks and Rec. She’s the adult who’s almost like one of us. We love her. [on the left]
Martha - My best friend since like grade 3 or 4. She knows me better than I know myself. Scarily intelligent and underestimated. Knowing she’s around makes me less worried about the universe.
Cristina - My former coworker. The first person I met at my job other than the girl who told me about it. Is delightfully naive. Is 4 years older than me but I always forget. She’s Christian, but is secretly very evil.
Jess - My down-the-hall neighbour. Known her since grade 10, she’s a feisty redhead who knows what she believes, and won’t take crap from anyone.
Charlene - one of my best friends since grade 8 or 9, her house used to be the base camp for our group of friends. We were anime-obsessed together, and took Japanese in grade 9 and 11.
Ben A – Met him through Ben L, at Cap College at the end-of-the-year film screening. Ended up dating him for 6 months and fell in love for the second time ever. It ended oddly, and I haven’t talked to him since.
Topher – Jess’s former Starbucks coworker and now current daycare coworker. Have met him a few times, I approve of him as a human being because he likes Matt Good and Massive Attack.
Fraser - He’s different. Seems to be a little absent mentally sometimes but he’s an awesome guy. Good friend. Puts up with my shit. I’m a little worried about him recently though. He seems to be doing everything in excess and I may or may not stage an intervention.
Ori - We’ve been asked if we’re sisters/twins several times, and none of the people were joking. Haha. We share a love of crafty things and our hobby is tormenting Derek.
Lisa - Stasia’s former coworker, and best friend. She’s absolutely adorable and really funny.
Matt Suto – My ex, we dated for about a month when I was in grade 12 and he was in grade 11. Didn’t expect it to last long, wasn’t too beat up about it ending. We’re still good friends.
Mike Wolfe – Ben L’s friend from film school, also a good friend of Ben A. I think he’s a douchebag, but I’m sure he means well. He’s not really THAT bad. I just need someone to be mad at sometimes.
Alex - My Scottish buddy. Met him through Amber. Mark’s roommate. Is like a older brother, kinda, but one I actually like spending time with. We go on random photo excursions and he let me practice driving in his new car. Now I can do it legally. We communicate mainly by adding “zorz” to the end of every word.
Hayley – Met her through Ben L, who knows her through Ori. She’s the cutest little thing ever, even though she’s taller than me. She’s super random and really entertaining. Mike Wolfe has a “thing” for her. Too bad he’s 5 years older than her. I adopted Hayley as my niece. I do that sometimes. Adopt people.
Luke – I used to work with him at a youth center in New West, I think that’s how we met. He’s 2 years younger than me, and used to date a girl named Tarryn who I adopted as my cousin on a plane to Chicago for a band trip. He’s a cool kid, I make fun of him for being young.
Derek - Technically my coworker, he went to the same elementary school as me, and I was friends with his sister in grade 7. He’s kinda quiet and always asks questions and comments on how I smell like a random fruit every time he sees me. He’s another to add to my list of kinda crazy drivers. He’s 5 years older than me, so I make fun of him for being old. This is not the way to spell his name, it’s actually Derrick, but I refuse to spell it that way, just to be difficult.
Charlee - Ben L met her on a cruise like 5 years ago, and managed to keep in touch. A few months ago, her and her friend Caylean came up to visit Ben, and I met them. I’d been talking to Charlee on MySpace and then text messages, so it was awesome to finally meet her. Now we all go back and forth between here, and Charlee’s home just south of Seattle. She met Fraser about a month ago when she was up here and they’re now dating, luckily both of them can drive so it makes the LDR thing easier.
Meghan – Met her at the Edge, she’s friends with Tarryn. She’s 4 years younger than me but somehow manages to be cool enough that I forget she’s so young. We always team up against Derek and Warren, and have those conversations where all you do is give looks to each other but it all makes sense.
Warren – The other youth worker at the Edge, him and Derek taunt me, Meghan and Ori constantly. If Derek and Warren played “good cop bad cop” Warren would totally be the bad cop. Not that he’s a jerk, he’s actually quite funny in a dark sarcastic way, which kind of makes him awesome.
Cory – Met him at Ben’s Blenz party in December, a few of us started hanging out, and now I hang out with him all the time. He’s part of the Rockband Crew. He’s teaching me to skateboard (one lesson so far), is making me watch SCADS of movies (I don’t sleep anymore), and his roommate calls me “roomie” cuz I’m over there so much.
Chuck – The owner of Rockband, met him through Cory. I <3 Chuck. He drives a huge ass Jeep, which is difficult to get in and out of. Always works super early in the morning. We joke that I’m going to move in to his place because it’s right by Douglas.
Candace – Another person I’ve met through Cory, Candace rocks my socks. At her birthday party we had a moment because we both knew the words to “The Neden Game” by ICP. We were the only ones. Lol.
Eva – Went to highschool with her, I now work with her at Blenz. Usually work Fridays together, her me and this other guy are the Friday morning crew, and it’s quite awesome.
FAMILY
James – My younger brother. Had cancer when he was 6, is now almost 17. Annoys the hell out of me most of the time, but when we laugh at something it goes on forever. He’ll laugh cuz I’m laughing which makes me laugh more. It’s one of those sibling things.
Mom - self-explanatory. My mom. Everyone loves her cuz she’s cool. And she is.
Dad – Well, my dad. I live with him. Computer-savvy, reads Scientific American (okay so do I). I somehow ended up with pretty cool parents.
TEACHERS
Len Millis – Biology 1210/Biology 2320 instructor. He’s weird, but in a good way. He likes to make us repeat what he says and tell us we’re all 100% wrong.
Graeme Bowbrick – Criminology 1100 instructor. Good storyteller, used to be in politics. His class was a 3-hour night class and he managed to keep us mostly entertained and awake. Kudos!
Paul O’Connor – Chemistry 1110 instructor. New to Vancouver, originally from Victoria. Young, funny. Keeps us paying attention by doing things like bringing balloons to class to illustrate molecular geometry.
Scott Denham – Chemistry 1108 lab instructor. I discovered he speaks Japanese and we bonded a little. Like a dipole bond or something. One of the weak ones.
OTHER
Matthew Good – I am slightly obsessed with his music. I’ve seen him live twice, and hearing him play “Weapon” at Arts County Fair 2005 was the closest thing I’ve ever had to a religious experience.
